Saudi Arabia and a Japanese investor aim to revolutionise solar energy
Summary:
If a mega-project announced on Tuesday 27th March in New York is carried out, the data stating that currently operating photovoltaic solar power stations add up to 390 GW of installed power will change radically.
This agreement was signed by Massyoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank (a Japanese multinational), and Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. It foresees the construction of a complex of photovoltaic power plants with a total installed power of 200 GW. The project indicates that this goal could be achieved by 2030 and required an investment of some 160 billion euros.

Analysis comment:
This article talks about a new project in the hands of Saudi Arabia and a Japanese businessman in which they intend to move towards an economy less dependent on oil; betting on a renewable source that until now was presented as one of the main competitors of hydrocarbons: solar energy.
I think this project is a very good idea because it takes us away from the use of fossil fuels such as oil, which has caused and continues to cause such negative repercussions on the planet. An example of this is is the spillage of this fuel into the sea, as it has had a strong impact on the marine environment (fauna and biodiversity, as we can see on the pictures), causing pollution of the coast and the oceans, thus also influencing the local economy. Oil and natural gas provide approximately sixty percent of the energy currently consumed by the planet. Both are non-renewable natural resources, and as a consequence, new energy production alternatives must be implemented that move the world, guaranteeing the best quality of life, respect for our planet and that of future generations, as this new purpose does.
However, as the article says, this is undoubtedly the most ambitious solar photovoltaic initiative known to date, and that makes some energy and investment experts believe it will be very difficult to implement in a timely manner.
In conclusion, I really think that a big change is needed as soon as possible on the planet, due to oil is very harmful to the environment and, in addition, we are running out of it.
If this project goes ahead, it will be a major breakthrough in this alternative to oil.
