Glossary:
Genome: a full set of chromosomes.
Average: constituing the results obtained by adding together several quantities and then dividing this total by the number of quantities.
Embryos: the young of a viviparous animal , especially of a mammal, in the early stages of development inside the womb. In humans up to the end of the second month.
Womb: the uterus of the human female and some higher mammals too.

Analysis comment:
This article explains that people with Down's syndrome have a genome of great quality.
It explains too that this syndrome is caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21. It's estimated that approximately one in every seven conceived embryos show this genetic anomaly and although only 20% of them end up surviving and developing into a baby.
Also, it explains that the quality of all genomes is not identical. Consequently, a study carried out in Genoa by the UNIGE's Faculty of Medicine has revealed that Down's syndrome people have a higher genome quality than the rest.
On the one hand, Italian researchers have taken 380 DNA samples from Down's syndrome people and they have compared them to others who don't have this syndrome. And the results have been that the genome quality of the former is superior to the rest.
On the other hand, it's known that Down's syndrome people may be more likely to suffer from certain health problems; some of them serious. But this discovery has revealed the extra resistance that helps them to survive of these problems and has also revealed too that can even have an average life expectancy around 65 years.

To conlcude, this article is a success for the medicine. Because thanks to this discovery, it has been shown that the Down's syndrome people have a genome great of quality and this could help them to not being so socially marginalized.
And it's a progress for the medicine too because it have been discovered new things about this syndrome.
